It gave me a chance to look through an Oliver + S pattern. It’s a beginner level pattern, and the instruction were clear and easy to understand. My main concern was the yardage required by the pattern. For the size I was making (3T) the pattern called for 2 yards of fabric. It does take 2 yards if you lay all the “cut on fold” pieces on the center fold. However seeing as this is a child size dress, there a lot of wasted fabric closer to the selvages. As you can see in the image below.
I guess that is the easiest layout for a true beginner. I was able to shift the pieces around and create new folds to cut on. I was able save a half yard by doing that.
I also added a bit of top stitching to the dress, around the neckline and the pockets.
Here the the completed finally product. It’s on a hanger for now. My niece lives in Spain and will be visiting in August with her mom, my sister. I will post her modeling it in August!
